Looking at the amazing performance this year by Orioles pitching at the Trop

The Orioles have put some together some rather stunning pitching stats this season at Tropicana Field. It is the place where they gave up just three runs total in sweeping a three-game, season-opening series. It is a place where they are 6-1 this year and have outscored the Rays there 30-11. The Orioles' team ERA at the Trop is 1.60 on the season and the ERA of the starting pitchers there is 1.47. Tampa Bay batters have just 36 hits in the seven games and are batting just .168 against Baltimore pitching in their home park. That is pretty strong stuff against the team that has won the American League East two of the last three seasons. It is also a reversal of form where Tampa Bay leads the AL in team ERA at 3.60 and the Orioles are last at 4.83. Here are more impressive stats by O's starters at the Trop: * The Orioles have produced seven quality starts in seven outings there. * Five times the O's starter gave up one earned run or less and three times allowed no runs. * In the season-opening series there, Orioles' starters gave up just one run over 20 innings for an ERA of 0.45. * Brad Bergesen pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout at the Trop on May 14. * The "worst" outing by an O's starter there is the eight-inning game by Jeremy Guthrie on May 13. He pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and three runs in a 3-0 loss against Jeremy Hellickson. It's Tampa Bay's pitchers that have allowed the fewest runs in the AL this year and their starters lead the league in innings pitched. Every Rays game this year has been started by a Tampa pitcher that was drafted and developed by the club. All of that is very impressive. But at least in seven games this year at that ballpark, the talented Tampa Bay pitching staff has been outperformed by the Orioles.
