More on Arrieta (updated)

Jake Arrieta didn't start tonight at Triple-A Norfolk, but I'm told that he's jogging to the Tides' bullpen and is expected to pitch in relief. He must have been scratched because the Orioles weren't sure whether they'd need to get him here over the weekend. It's not like they were going to hold him out of tonight's game so he could start next Saturday when Brad Bergesen's next turn came up. That's the best I can give you at the moment. He wasn't needed tonight, so he'll pitch later for the Tides. Update: Andy Mitchell replaced Arrieta and has allowed seven runs and 13 hits in 2 1/3 innings. Brandon Snyder is starting at third base tonight for Norfolk, with Rhyne Hughes at first. Nolan Reimold is playing left field. Double-A Bowie left-hander Zach Britton has allowed two unearned runs and four hits in five innings against Erie, with two walks and four strikeouts. One reporter predicted that Jon Lester would throw a no-hitter tonight, considering that the Orioles never beat him and their offense is in a major funk. First baseman Victor Martinez made a diving catch to rob leadoff hitter Corey Patterson, causing the reporter to quip that the Orioles lost their only chance to break up the no-no. But Julio Lugo reached on an infield single in the third inning, and Patterson singled with two outs. . Lester isn't reeling, but at least the Orioles laid a glove on him.
