Taylor Hearn and Koda Glover highlight strong pitching field in Florida

Instructional league has completed in Florida at the Nationals facility. The players now move on to offseason workouts and winter league competition.

Focusing on the pitchers at instructional league, the group included the likes of Lucas Giolito, Erick Fedde and Reynaldo Lopez, plus many other of the top prospects in the Nationals system.

A couple pitchers that did well during instructs were Taylor Hearn and Koda Glover.

Nationals-Helmets-in-Rack-Sidebar.jpgThe 21-year-old Hearn is a left-hander who pitched at Oklahoma Baptist. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 215 lbs. He went 1-5 with a 3.56 ERA, mostly with short-season Single-A Auburn. He had 45 strikeouts and 15 walks in 48 innings.

"Hearn has an extra large angular frame and an electric arm," said Nationals director of player development Mark Scialabba. "He's starting to leverage the baseball more consistently and his strike quality is improving from the short stints during Instructional League. He pitched in the mid 90s and hit 98 mph several times."

Also turning heads in Florida was right-hander Koda Glover. There's something about these Oklahoma pitchers, and the 22-year-old Glover was an eighth-round selection out of the Sooner state, although he was an Oklahoma State Cowboy, at 6-foot-5, 195 lbs.

Check out his biography headshot on Milb.com. This guy means business and finished the season with 18 strikeouts in his final 15 innings.

"Glover is a big physical pitcher with a great mound presence and aggressive demeanor," Scialabba said. "He attacks the strike zone to both sides of the plate with a well above average (fastball) with late life in the mid- to upper 90s mph. He complements that well with a power slider and changeup."
