Dietrich goes deep on Roark, Werth ties it (Walters homers, Nats win 6-3)

Tanner Roark and Jose Fernandez were swapping zeroes... until Derek Dietrich stepped to the plate in the Marlins' half of the fourth. With two on and one out, Dietrich took Roark deep to right-center, breaking a scoreless tie with the three-run homer and putting the Nationals in a familiar position - comeback mode. This time, they're charged with erasing a 3-0 deficit against the Marlins ace, who has held the Nats scoreless on one hit while fanning five and walking none through four frames. Fernandez has needed just 45 pitches, 31 for strikes, to get that done. Roark, on the other hand, has thrown 63 pitches, 40 for strikes, in allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in four innings. Danny Espinosa has the Nats' lone hit, a two-out double in the second. Update: Jayson Werth has provided yet another big blast for the Nats. After Washington put men on first and third with no outs in the sixth - with the help of the first of Saltalamacchia's two errors in the frame - Fernandez retired the next two batters. Then Werth came up and belted one to right-center. Replays showed a fan reaching beyond the railing, interfering with the ball while still in play. Umpires initially ruled it a three-run home run, and then after a brief replay, the call stood with the Nats and Marlins tied at 3-3. Werth is up to three homers and 11 RBIs in 15 games. That culminated a fascinating inning against Fernandez, who had blanked the Nats over the first five frames. Jose Lobaton led off the sixth with a double. He reached third and Roark reached first safely when Saltalamacchia fired to third on a sac bunt by the pitcher. The throw pulled Casey McGehee off third base. Saltalamacchia committed a second error in the inning when he couldn't pull in Anthony Rendon's foul pop up behind the plate. That didn't come back to bite the Marlins, but the extra out did, as Werth brought everyone home to knot things up. Update II: Both starters have left the game with the score still tied 3-3. Fernandez was exceptional for Miami, allowing just the three unearned runs on four hits. He struck out 10 and walked none. Roark departs with one out in the seventh and a man on first. If reliever Drew Storen keeps the Marlins from taking the lead, Roark will finish with three earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two. Instant update: That line holds for Roark after Storen induced a double-play grounder from Marcell Ozuna to end the inning. Update III: Zach Walters, who hit his first major league homer on Tuesday, gave the Nats their first lead of the game by starting the eighth with a pinch-hit homer off the left field foul pole. It was Walters' second homer in as many at-bats, as his first blast came in the ninth inning a night earlier. Now let's see if the Nats can tack on more or hold on to a slim 4-3 lead. Update IV: The Nats weren't done after Walters' homer. They loaded the bases with one out and Ian Desmond brought two more runs home on a single to left. So the Nats head to the bottom of the eighth with a three-run cushion. Update V: Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless eighth and Rafael Soriano tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off both a 6-3 victory and a series win over the Marlins. That marks back-to-back scoreless outings for Clippard, who had allowed a run in each of his previous two appearances. Soriano recorded his third save of the season and now the Nats come home to open a four-game series against the Cardinals.
