It's easy to look at the Nationals on the field and be impressed. The team is atop the National League East and seems destined for a playoff berth.
But off the diamond, the success of the Nationals organization is just as potent. The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation has been touching the lives of children all throughout our nation's capital and has been a beacon of hope for so many in the area.
Recently, the Foundation announced it will host K Street Cocktails, a fundraising reception to benefit the foundation's three cornerstone initiatives. The reception will take place at Lincoln Restaurant and is invitation-only, but will feature small eats and appearances by Nationals representatives.
In addition to the food and fellowship, guests will also take part in a silent auction, which will include items such as a 2012 team-signed ball, a Bryce Harper-signed bat and a Ceremonial First Pitch at an upcoming Nationals game.
Very cool stuff.

Focusing on children's health, education and recreation, the Dream Foundation's three cornerstone programs include:
* The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy: In partnership with the District of Columbia, the Academy will operate as a year-round youth development program committed to teaching the fundamentals of baseball and softball while providing after-school and summer educational programs for youth in Wards 7 and 8. The Academy is expected to open in 2013.
* The Washington Nationals Pediatric Diabetes Care Complex at Children's National Medical Center: This world-class facility will provide a multi-disciplinary approach to supporting families of children with diabetes.
* The Neighborhood Initiative: Grants and in-kind donations are among the various resources presented to local non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the Southeast/Southwest D.C. neighborhoods surrounding Nationals Park and beyond.
