The Nationals are in a tough spot, we all know that. Here's what else we know: Their final 11 games before the All-Star break come against the Marlins, Pirates and Mets. If they've got a major turnaround in them, now would be an opportune time to get started.
The Nats have faced the Marlins only three times this season, and they won all three of those games in Miami. So these guys are going to be seeing a whole lot of each other over the next 2 1/2 months, beginning tonight with Jeremy Hellickson and 22-year-old Pablo López opposing each other on the mound.
The Nationals have a bunch of lefties in their lineup against Lopez, and that's even with Adam Eaton the odd man out from tonight's bullpen. Matt Adams returns to the lineup and starts at first base, with Daniel Murphy making his second start of the season at second base. Pedro Severino again is behind the plate, though it's not clear yet if Spencer Kieboom remains ill and unavailable.
Meanwhile, Erick Fedde was placed on the 10-day disabled list this afternoon. The Nats officially are calling his injury "right shoulder inflammation." Jefry Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, presumably to start in Fedde's place Monday in Pittsbugh, though we'll have to see if perhaps he's available out of the bullpen the next couple nights.
