Lannan getting a rude welcome back to D.C. (Nats win 9-2)

Coming into tonight's game, John Lannan had allowed just two runs in 13 innings against the Nationals this season. Back in D.C. for the first time since being non-tendered by the Nats last winter, Lannan is getting smacked around pretty good early on. The Nats have put up four runs on six hits through just three innings, with Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman combining to do the bulk of the damage. Rendon crushed a 2-2 Lannan fastball just over the high wall in center field for his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot that got the Nats on the board. The play was reviewed, and the home run stood. Three batters later, Zimmerman took Lannan deep as well, smoking a hanging changeup into the red seats in left-center. It was Zimmerman's 13th homer this season and just his second in his last 99 plate appearances. The power numbers just haven't been there for Zimmerman this season. Ian Desmond and Adam LaRoche put up back-to-back doubles in the third, bringing in another run and giving the Nats a 4-0 edge. Dan Haren has turned in three clean innings, facing the minimum to this point. The veteran righty continues to really pitch well since coming off the DL, and now has allowed just one earned run in his last 17 innings. Update: The Nats put up four more on Lannan in the fifth, and that'll be it for the former Nat. He allowed eight runs (tied for a career high) on nine hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Not the prettiest of lines, but I bet it looks pretty darn good to those in the Nationals' dugout. In the fifth, Wilson Ramos drove in a run with a double, Haren drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run and Denard Span had a two-run single. Everyone's getting in on the act tonight. Haren, meanwhile, continues to cruise. He allowed a lonely run in the fourth, but has surrendered just two hits through six innings and has needed just 75 pitches to get to this point. What a turnaround it's been for the 32-year-old, who had a 6.15 ERA when he went to the disabled list in late June. Update II: Haren's done after seven stellar innings, a performance that only make his numbers even stronger since coming off the disabled list. The Phillies managed just two runs on four hits against Haren tonight. The right-hander struck out seven, walked none and threw 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes. In his six starts (37 innings) off the DL, Haren has punched up a 2.43 ERA, 0.919 WHIP, 38 strikeouts and just eight walks. Once the major league leader in home runs allowed, Haren has surrendered just two longballs since landing on the DL. The Nats lead 8-2 mid-way through the eighth. Update III: That'll do it. The Nats beat the Phillies 9-2, snapping a four-game skid. Every starting position player had at least one hit for the Nats tonight, and Haren picks up his third straight win, his seventh on the season. The Nats are back to five games under .500 and scored more than five runs for the first time since July 28.
