Nats overcome Bryce Harper's ejection in 3-2 win

The Yankees came out swinging against Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann. After knocking a leadoff single, Brett Gardner scored the game's first run on Carlos Beltran's double to the right-center field gap. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly from Brian McCann plated Beltran.

Yankees starter Adam Warren surrendered walks to Yunel Escobar and Ryan Zimmerman in the opening innning, but both were stranded.

Update: In a bizarre sequence, Bryce Harper was ejected at the plate with two outs in the third. After taking a first pitch strike, Harper stepped out of the box. It seemed like home plate umpire Marvin Hudson began engaging in a discussion with the Nats dugout. When Hudson was finished, he instructed Harper to get back in the box. Harper and Hudson then exchanged heated words. Hudson didn't give Harper any leeway and quickly sent the right fielder to the showers.

A furious Harper immediately jumped in Hudson's face before Nationals manager Matt Williams sprinted from the dugout to get in between his star and the umpire. Third base coach Bob Henley guided a fuming Harper off the field as Williams continued his tirade.

Hudson didn't waste any time ejecting Williams as well. Williams got his money's worth by kicking the dirt and chalk lines all over the batter's box.

This is the second time that both Harper and Williams have been ejected together in less than a week.

Rookie Michael A. Taylor entered the game for Harper, striking out while continuing the at-bat. Taylor remains in the game in right field.

In the fourth, Tyler Moore blasted a home run to left to tie the game. The solo shot is Moore's third of the season.

Zimmermann has settled down since the rocky start. The right-hander held the Yankees scoreless since the opening frame while only allowing two hits.

Update II: In the seventh, Wilson Ramos reached on an error, and Moore and Dan Uggla drew a pair of walks to set up Denard Span's one-out RBI single to left to give the Nats the lead.

Zimmermann's night ended after seven innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Lefty Matt Grace will begin the eighth.

Update III: Closer Drew Storen struck out Alex Rodriguez to end the game as the Nats claim both contests in this two-game set.

It is Storen's 12th save of the season.

The Nats beat the Yankees 3-2.
