Relive "Nationals Classics": Slugging your way into February

Well, Nationals fans, we're almost ready to pass through one more hurdle between winter's cold and baseball warmth. By the end of this week, we can utter these words: Spring training starts this month.

February never felt so good, did it?

As we move closer to the four greatest words in the English language - pitchers and catchers report - you can warm yourself with this week's "Nationals Classics" on MASN. Think of this as your own personal pre-spring training training. Pretty soon, you'll be able to watch baseball on your TV in real time.

Ain't baseball great? Hmmm, I feel like I've heard that somewhere before.

Monday, Jan. 30, 1 p.m. - Grab a sandwich, cozy up in front of your TV and enjoy this throwback from May 28, 2009. That's the day when slugger Adam Dunn hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs in an interleague victory over the Orioles.

Tuesday, Jan. 31, 9 a.m. - Most walk-offs are of the offensive variety - a single up the middle, a hit that sends a runner scurrying around the bases, a dramatic homer that leaves no doubt. Then there are the walk-offs that come courtesy of the other team, like this game from July 17, 2012. Ryan Zimmerman again played the hero, streaking home from third base on Pedro Beato's wild pitch to give the Nats a 5-4 victory. So in this case, Mr. Walk-off ran.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, noon - Speaking of walk-offs, how about another Zimmerman special? On July 6, 2006, his ninth-inning single to center provided the margin of victory in an 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins.

Thursday, Feb. 2, 12:30 p.m. - Now about a memorable Nationals win and a little bit of major league history to boot? On Aug. 7, 2007, the Nats beat the Giants 8-6 behind home runs from Felipe Lopez, Austin Kearns and Brian Schneider. But the news of the night was Giants slugger Barry Bonds' 756th career home run off Mike Bacsik in the third inning.

Sunday, Feb. 5, 1 p.m. - On Aug., 20, 2014, the Nationals won their 10th straight game, 1-0 over the Diamondbacks, to tie the franchise record, courtesy of an error on Anthony Rendon's single in the ninth, plating Denard Span. It was Washington's fifth walk-off in six games.
