#TBT to "Nationals Classics": 15 years' worth of memories

With 15 years of history, the Nationals have created plenty of memories. Last year's World Series championship was definitely the pinnacle, but even the most pedestrian of Nats campaigns offers a highlight or two.

This week's smattering of "Nationals Classics" on MASN is a trip down memory lane, a look at nine noteworthy games from the past, from the Nats' debut season in 2005 through a Max Scherzer strikeout record in 2018.

We know you miss baseball - the real-time kind, which mandates a daily check of the standings and multiple browser refreshes during a game - but MASN memories are the next best thing.

Thursday, April 16 - 9 a.m. - We've got a tripleheader of "Nationals Classics" for you today, starting with this game from Aug. 17, 2014. Jayson Werth wasn't in the starting lineup that day against the Pirates, but he loomed large in the Nats' 6-5 win over the Pirates. Werth pinch-hit in the ninth, drawing a one-out walk and scoring the tying run on Asdrúbal Cabrera's single. Then, in the 11th, Werth led off with a double and scored the game-winner on a Scott Hairston sac fly.

Thursday, April 16 - 4 p.m. - July 4, 2006 saw Ryan Zimmerman celebrate Independence Day by walking off the Marlins. One swing of Zimmerman's bat in the bottom of the ninth was all it took to erase a 4-3 hole with a three-run homer at RFK Stadium.

Thursday, April 16 - 11:30 p.m. - We'll complete a trio of walk-off wins with a four-run ninth inning that subdued the Angels on April 23, 2014 for a 5-4 triumph. José Lobaton led off the frame with a solo homer, Werth doubled home two runs to tie it and Adam LaRoche singled in the winning run.

Friday, April 17 - 4 p.m. - Mr. Walk-off was front and center on June 18, 2006 against the Yankees, with Zimmerman crushing a two-run homer off future teammate Chien-Ming Wang in the bottom of the ninth to get the stands at RFK Stadium rocking in a 2-1 win.

Saturday, April 18 - 10 a.m. - Astute Nationals fans will remember the 2005 campaign as Jeffrey Hammonds' only season in Washington and the final in his 13-year career. On May 18 of that year, Hammonds came through with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth for a 1-0 victory over the Brewers.

Sunday, April 19 - 2 p.m. - No way around it, Scherzer racks up strikeouts with some consistency. On July 27, 2018, his 11-whiff night at MIami helped the Nats to a 9-1 win over the Marlins. That gave Scherzer seven straight seasons with 200 or more strikeouts, making him the fourth pitcher in major league history to do so.

Monday, April 20 - 1 p.m. - The Orioles traveled down the Baltimore-Washington Parkway on May 23, 2010 and went home to Charm City 4-3 losers after Josh Willingham homered to left-center in the 10th for another Nationals walk-off win.

Tuesday, April 21 - 9 a.m. - Everybody remembers Stephen Strasburg's major league debut, but the right-hander was pretty good in his second start, too. Hitting the road for the first time and facing the Indians, Strasburg allowed only two hits and fanned eight over 5 1/3 innings, picking up the win in a 9-4 shellacking of the Tribe.

Wednesday, April 21 - 2:30 p.m. - We'll close out this week's "Nationals Classics" with another Scherzer gem. Though he missed a perfect game against the Pirates on June 20, 2015, Mad Max still pitched a no-hitter in a 6-0 dismantling of the Pirates that forever made José Tabata persona non grata in D.C.
