Arrieta with six scoreless as O's romp 11-3 over the Jays

The Orioles used a big inning and a big pitching performance to post another win over Toronto on Tuesday night. Jake Arrieta pitched six scoreless innings and the O's added to a 3-0 lead with a six-run 7th in an 11-3 romp over the Jays. The Orioles have now won four series in a row for the first time since August 3-15, 2004. An enthusiastic crowd of 16,589 saw it on Buck Showalter T-shirt Tuesday. The Orioles have won two in a row after starting the year 0-12 vs. Toronto. They have won eight of their last ten overall and 12 of the last 17 games. Arrieta had allowed just one run three times over his first 17 big league starts, but this was first outing without allowing a run. He has now given up 3 ER or fewer in five of his last six starts. He improved to 6-6, 4.66 on the year and is 2-0, 2.60 over his last three starts. The Blue Jays went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position against Arrieta tonight. Felix Pie's RBI single in the 4th gave the O's a 1-0 lead and plated Luke Scott, who doubled. The O's scored twice in the 5th on a Nick Markakis solo homer and Pie's second RBI single. The six-run 7th turned the game into a blowout. Robert Andino capped the scoring then with a three-run double. Toronto avoided a shutout when Aaron Hill hit a three-run homer off Pedro Viola in the 8th. Adam Jones completed the scoring with a two-run homer in the last of the inning. The Orioles are now 8-5 in September and 25-15 (.625) since Showalter took over. The Orioles get yet another chance for a series sweep Wednesday night here when Brad Bergesen (6-10, 5.29) faces Kyle Drabek, who will be making his Major League debut.
