Bergesen and 'pen lead O's past Angels 3-2

Brad Bergesen took the mound tonight with just one win all year over 10 starts and 18 appearances. Then, he went out and picked up No. 2. Bergesen, with some help, pitched the Orioles to a 3-2 win over Los Angeles in front of 20,311 Saturday night at Camden Yards. He entered with a 1-6 record and 5.74 ERA in his 10 starts on the season but picked up his first win since May 14 when he shutout Tampa Bay. Bergesen gave up six hits and two runs over six innings, throwing 79 pitches. After Bergesen exited, Jim Johnson pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and Koji Uehara quickly retired the side in the eighth. Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth and recorded his 16th save, preserving the one-run win. After hitting a grand slam in the ninth last night, Vernon Wells homered in his first at-bat tonight, with a two-run shot off Bergesen in the top of the first. It was his 16th of the year and 34th against the Orioles, his most versus any club. Down by that 2-0 score, the Orioles got on the board when Adam Jones led off the last of the fourth with a solo shot to left. It was his 17th on the year and 14th at home. The Orioles took the lead against Joel Pineiro with a two-run, bottom of the fifth. Robert Andino and Craig Tatum led the inning with singles and scored on a Nick Markakis RBI single and a Jones sac fly. It was Jones' second RBI of the night and 58th of the season. The Orioles knocked off an Angels team that was 23-10 since June 13, the best record in the majors in that time. The Orioles improve to 40-57 on the year, 26-27 at home, 5-14 in July and 9-11 against the American League West. In the series and homestand finale on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Eastern time, Jeremy Guthrie (4-13, 4.35) pitches against Tyler Chatwood (5-6, 3.71).
