Bowie right-hander Bobby Bundy will have knee surgery, miss rest of season

Bowie right-hander Bobby Bundy, Dylan Bundy's older brother, is going to have right knee surgery on Monday and will miss the rest of the 2015 season.

Bobby Bundy was pitching in a game May 5 against Akron when he fielded a ball to the third base side of the mound and felt something in the knee. He had ACL surgery on that same knee in high school. This is tough news for Bundy, who overcame three procedures to return to pitch this year for the Baysox and he was 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA in eight games. In his last four Bowie outing,s he had given up just one run over 8 1/3 innings.

Bundy had bone spurs removed twice from his right elbow and eventually had ligament-reconstructive surgery, the same procedure his brother underwent in June 2013.

The two brothers had pitched in the same game this year twice for Bowie and it happened once for the Orioles in spring training, when the two brothers both pitched against St. Louis on March 12.

Before that spring game, the last time the brothers saw their names in the same box score it was April 2008. Dylan Bundy was a freshman and Bobby Bundy a senior at Owassa (Okla.) High School.

In March, Dylan Bunday talked about all his brother had overcome to that point and how the elder Bundy had been such a role model for him.

"Everyone preaches to me about how much patience and work ethic I have, but I learned it all from my brother," he said. "He went through three surgeries, triple the amount I have gone through. Been through two bone spurs and a Tommy John. He definitely has the discipline and motivation to keep going."
