Bullpen talk and tonight's matchups in the Bronx

Can the Orioles go a second day without making a move to freshen up their bullpen?

They stood pat yesterday despite playing 11 innings the previous night and using Mike Wright for 3 1/3 innings. They considered sending down Wright, the latest "reward" for a good relief outing, but decided to hold onto him.

Wright doesn't figure to be available tonight for the series opener against the Yankees and Ubaldo Jiménez threw 43 pitches in three innings last night after relieving Alec Asher.

The Orioles like how Edwin Jackson can come back on limited rest. He worked 2 2/3 innings on Wednesday and probably will be deemed available tonight. Maybe that's good enough to prevent the shuttle from going into motion.

The Orioles return to the Bronx tonight after losing two of three games April 28-30, avoiding a sweep with a 7-4, 11-inning win in the finale.

Donnie Hart had a blown save and Logan Verrett earned the win with two scoreless innings. They're currently with Triple-A Norfolk. Hart was added to the roster yesterday.

Craig Gentry started in right field and had a single and RBI. He's also with Norfolk.

Manny Machado started at third base. He's still with the club and hoping to dodge the disabled list, but he's probably not ready to return to the lineup.

Getting back the designated hitter this weekend allows manager Buck Showalter to return Chris Davis to first base. Rubén Tejada can play third base if Machado is unavailable, though it takes away a utility infielder.

Tejada is 10-for-57 (.175) lifetime against the Yankees and 5-for-26 (.192) in their home stadium. They signed him as a free agent on Dec. 12, 2016 and traded him to the Orioles on Sunday for cash considerations.

He never got a chance to wear their pinstripes. Maybe he'll get a chance to play against them.

Dylan Bundy is getting a second chance to start at Yankee Stadium. He allowed five runs and seven hits over four innings on August 27, 2016, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Bundy faced the Yankees on May 29 at Camden Yards and held them to two runs over seven innings. He's 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA in five career games (three starts), including a 1.574 WHIP in 20 1/3 innings.

Brett Gardner is 5-for-10 with a double against Bundy. Rookie Aaron Judge is 1-for-5 with a home run.

Bundy has registered 10 quality starts in his 12 outings this season. However, he failed to complete six innings for the first time in his most recent start against the Red Sox, when he allowed two runs and threw 100 pitches in five innings.

Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery has registered a 3.67 ERA and 1.278 WHIP this season in 10 starts over 56 1/3 innings. He's surrendered only five home runs.

Montgomery allowed three runs, walked four batters and struck out seven in five innings on April 30. He faced them again on May 29 in Baltimore and allowed three runs (one earned) and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a 3-2 loss.

Joey Rickard and Mark Trumbo are 2-for-5 against Montgomery.
