Despite demotion, Kimball remains determined to reach Bigs this year

Nationals right-handed reliever Cole Kimball was demoted to Triple-A Syracuse Thursday, but didn't let the move change the way he approaches each day. Some had written Kimball took the news hard, but 15 minutes after finding out he'd been sent down, he was back on the field stretching, following his normal time schedule at camp. Despite the move to the minor league camp, the numbers Kimball put up at the major league level were very impressive. Kimball appeared in six games, throwing eight innings. He scattered five hits, allowed no homers, one run, only three walks and struck out eight batters. His ERA was a ridiculously minuscule 1.13. Opponents batted a paltry .185. Kimball has remained positive, upbeat and focused throughout spring training, and this latest news hasn't changed his determination to get to D.C. this season. "I understand the demotion is a business decision, as it is for all first year 40-man roster guys," Kimball said. "I will work as hard as I have been to help the big club out at some point this year. I knew it was coming and I was prepared for the news. But let's be honest, who wouldn't be a little disappointed (at the demotion)?" After his final outing with the Nationals Wednesday, Kimball said, "Everything is pretty sharp right now. Overall, I feel great so far. I want to keep it rolling. I am getting a lot of support from my teammates on the field, they are doing a great job at the plate."
