Guthrie returns, but Rangers beat O's to take series finale

Jeremy Guthrie returned to the mound for the first time since the O's season opener today. He pitched well, but it did not lead to a win. Texas takes two of three from the Orioles, winning 3-0 today behind Derek Holland in front of 21,452 at Camden Yards. The Orioles, who begin a series Tuesday in New York, fall to 6-3 while the Rangers are 8-1. The Orioles scored five runs over the first three innings Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader. But since that point, they have scored just one run over the last 23 innings. Guthrie, pitching just a few days after leaving the hospital after being treated for a form of pneumonia, gave up just one run and four hits over six innings. Adrian Beltre's third homer of the year produced the only Texas run off Guthrie. Guthrie falls to 1-1 with an ERA of 0.64. Over14 innings through two starts, has given up just seven hits and that lone run. Ian Kinsler added a two-run homer off Jim Johnson in the seventh to give the Rangers a 3-0 edge. The O's could not get to Texas starter Derek Holland. The lefty pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits. He made some big pitches in key spots as the Birds went 0-for-3 against him with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Texas closer Neftali Feliz got Luke Scott to fly out to deep left center with two on and two out in the eighth, then closed it out in the ninth. The Orioles begin a six-game road trip to New York and Cleveland on Tuesday night.
