Hagerstown's Lippincott maintaining consistent play, adapting to outfield

Low Single-A Hagerstown Suns first baseman/outfielder Bryan Lippincott has done well in the South Atlantic League championship series, going 4-for-8 with a triple and three RBIs through the first two games against Savannah. The surge is a small example of the consistency he has shown at different levels the past two seasons. With short-season Single-A Auburn, Lippincott hit .283 (47-for-166) in 44 games, with nine doubles, seven homers, 19 walks, three stolen bases and 29 RBIs. Prior to his work with the Doubledays, Lippincott hit .281 (39-for-139) for the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Nationals in 2012, smacking 11 doubles and one triple to go with 16 walks and 18 RBIs. Nationals director of player development Doug Harris said Lippincott has worked very hard to move up from the GCL all the way to Hagerstown this season, and help the Suns now in the playoffs. "He has bounced through a couple of levels and now has settled into a nice approach at the plate," Harris said. "He has been able to take advantage of the opportunity this season." Listed as a first baseman, the Nationals have played Lippincott in the outfield. Harris has been impressed with his transition from the infield. It is common for the Nationals to give their prospects the opportunity to test their defensive ability at various positions. It is all a great experience for the 23-year-old left-handed hitting prospect out of Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. "He has done a really nice job of adapting to the outfield, playing very well there," Harris said. "His makeup and intangibles are as good as you would want."
