Machado to begin rehab assignment Friday and more notes

Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed to reporters in Toronto this afternoon that third baseman Manny Machado will begin his injury rehab assignment Friday night at Single-A Frederick.
His pregame interview will air on MASN2 HD, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
Machado had five at-bats today at extended spring training after receiving five yesterday and four on Saturday.
The Keys conclude a three-game series against Myrtle Beach on Friday before hosting Carolina in a four-game series beginning Saturday. However, Machado may not stick around for long, since the Orioles will want him to face advanced competition.
Double-A Bowie isn't home again until May 2. They're in Harrisburg, Pa., Friday through Sunday and Richmond the next four days.
Triple-A Norfolk is home Saturday through May 4.
Chris Davis has reached base safely in 17 straight games, tying the longest streak of his career, which occurred Aug. 6-25, 2013.
Reliever Darren O'Day has allowed one earned run in six innings over seven games against the American League East this season. Since joining the Orioles before the 2012 season, O'Day has gone 6-0 with a 1.23 ERA and one save in 74 games within the division, holding opponents to a line of .162/.236/.303.
O'Day has allowed just one run in his last 17 appearances dating back to Aug. 25, 2013, a solo homer by Mike Napoli yesterday afternoon.
The Orioles went 5-for-7 (.714) with runners in scoring position yesterday in Boston. Since 1974, that average with RISP is tied for the third-best for the Orioles with at least seven at-bats. They went 6-for-7 (.857) against the Rays on April 18, 2013, and 7-for-9 (.778) against the Tigers on Aug. 17, 2002. Detroit. They also went 5-for-7 on May 1, 2010 against the Red Sox.
The Orioles and Angels are tied for the major league lead with seven outfield assists.
