Machado first among AL third basemen in All-Star voting

The slump that's lowered Manny Machado's average to .210 isn't preventing fans from placing him first among American League third basemen in balloting for the All-Star Game.

Machado is the only Orioles to hold the top spot as the first round of results are released today by Major League Baseball. He's received 369,069 votes to lead the Twins' Miguel Sanó 363,607 and the Indians' José Ramírez (351,814).

Machado is trying to join Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken Jr. as the only Orioles third basemen to earn multiple fan-elected starts. Machado received the honor last summer.

Welington Castillo is second among AL catchers with 339,902 votes to trail the Royals' Salvador Perez (420,268).

Jonathan Schoop is fifth among second basemen with 149,060. The Yankees' Starlin Castro is first with 516,268.

Adam Jones is seventh among outfielders with 236,481. The Angels' Mike Trout is first with 776,937, followed by the Yankees' Aaron Judge with 730,438 and the Red Sox's Mookie Betts with 337,473.

The voting period ends on Thursday, June 29th at 11:59 p.m.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 11 at Marlins Park.
