More ninth-inning magic at Bowie and other minor league notes

The Double-A Bowie Baysox pulled off more ninth-inning magic Sunday. For the second time in May, Bowie won a game with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.

Bowie entered the last of the ninth down 4-1 to Harrisburg and pulled within 4-2 on Brandon Snyder's single.

Then Quincy Latimore hit the slam to give the Baysox the dramatic win and complete a five-run rally. The slam came as Bowie was down to its last out. The 26-year-old Latimore, a fourth-round draft pick of the Pirates in 2007, hit the game-winner against the team he played for last year.

On May 3, Bowie won on a pinch-hit grand slam in the last of the ninth by Chris O'Brien. Mikey O'Brien got the win yesterday, making his Bowie debut with a scoreless ninth inning. The Baysox have won four of six, are 26-24 and three games out of first.

Triple-A Norfolk won again Sunday, 7-2 at Scranton, to move a season-high seven games over .500 at 29-22. The Tides, winners of eight of 10, are just a half-game out of first place after going 18-12 in May.

Two Tides outfielders that have been considered as potential Orioles callups are Chris Parmelee and Nolan Reimold. Both have hit well for average but without much power this year.

Parmelee is batting .315 with 11 doubles, four homers, 28 RBIs and an .826 OPS in 49 games. He is batting .347 against right-handed pitching. Reimold is batting .292 with 11 doubles, two homers, 10 RBIs and a .751 OPS in 42 games.

Reimold has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, batting a sizzling .516 (16-for-31) with four doubles and two RBIs. Reimold has raised his average 54 points over that stretch (from .238 to .292), a span that has included five multi-hit games. His .516 average since May 22 ranks fourth in all of minor league baseball.

Both Single-A Frederick and Single-A Delmarva have struggled recently.

The Keys lost 9-1 to Lynchburg on Sunday as Frederick pitchers walked nine batters. Now 25-25, Frederick has lost five of six games and is two games out of first.

Delmarva lost 4-3 to West Virginia on Sunday to fall to 23-27, 11 games out of first. The Shorebirds went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Delmarva currently has 11 players on the disabled list. That list includes two starting pitchers (Bennett Parry and Sebastian Vader), two catchers (Alex Murphy and Jonah Heim) and the team's leading hitter (Steve Wilkerson).

Delmarva's Conor Bierfeldt and Murphy rank first and fourth, respectively, in the South Atlantic League in RBIs. The two have account for 38 percent of the entire team's RBIs with Bierfeldt at 45 and Murphy with 28. Bierfeldt has 13 more RBIs than the next closest O's minor leaguer, Frederick's Drew Dosch with 32 RBIs.

O's minor league saves leaders:
10 - Mychal Givens, Bowie; Donnie Hart, Delmarva
8 - Oliver Drake, Norfolk
7 - Cody Wheeler, Frederick
