More roster talk, note on Wesley Wright and tonight's game

Do the Orioles activate second baseman Jonathan Schoop from the 60-day disabled list today or send him to Triple-A Norfolk to continue his injury rehab assignment?

The Orioles will have to create room for Schoop on the 25- and 40-man rosters. They don't have any other players to transfer to the 60-day disabled list.

Of course, a spot opens on the 40-man if the Orioles make a trade or designate a player for assignment.

Left-hander Wesley Wright remains on the 60-day disabled list and in Norfolk's bullpen. He's appeared in five games and allowed four runs and six hits, with three walks, two strikeouts and two wild pitches over five innings.

Asked about the reports on Wright, manager Buck Showalter replied, "Some good, some not as good as he's capable."

"Not as consistent as he's capable," Showalter said. "Some were good. I know his first couple outings in Norfolk, stuff was up but the results weren't there. Then next couple, stuff wasn't quite there but the results were better, so go figure. Got some people down there that can help us."

The Orioles begin a four-game series against the Rangers tonight at Camden Yards. They won six of the seven games against Texas in 2014 and have gone 11-3 over the past two seasons.

The Orioles swept the Rangers last year in a four-game series at Camden Yards for the first time since Aug. 6-9, 2004.

Adam Jones batted .538/.533/1.077 with two doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs in seven games against the Rangers last season. Steve Pearce hit three home runs.

The Orioles batted .311/.378/.557 with 15 home runs against the Rangers and averaged 6.6 runs per game. The pitching staff posted a 3.05 ERA.

The Orioles are 10-5 against left-handed starters this season, and the Rangers are sending southpaw Wandy Rodriguez to the mound tonight. Rodriguez was rocked in his last start, allowing eight runs and 11 hits over four innings in an 8-2 loss to the Athletics.

Rodriguez is 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in two career starts against the Orioles, allowing 10 runs and 14 hits in 7 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings in his only start at Camden Yards.

J.J. Hardy is 7-for-24 with four doubles and two home runs against Rodriguez. No other Oriole has more than four at-bats against him.

Bud Norris has allowed only two earned runs in his last 11 2/3 innings, but he's lost both starts. The Phillies' Ryan Howard broke up his shutout bid with a two-run homer, and Norris gave up five unearned runs against the Red Sox after two errors and a passed ball.

Norris is 2-0 with a 5.91 ERA in two career starts against the Rangers. Adrian Beltre is 2-for-6 with two home runs and five RBIs.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the Orioles are expressing interest in a few of the Astros' minor league outfielders, including LJ Hoes, who began yesterday batting .341/.424/.475 with 18 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 38 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 58 games at Triple-A Fresnso.

The Orioles traded Hoes and minor league left-hander Josh Hader to the Astros for Norris on July 31, 2013.
