O's game blog: Chris Tillman looks for win No. 10 at Chicago

Fresh off a win over ace Chris Sale, the Orioles look for a second straight win in Chicago tonight. A win in one of the next two games will give the Orioles their ninth series victory in their last 10 series.

Nick Markakis went 2-for-3 against Sale last night. He joined Josh Hamilton (June 7), Gregor Blanco (June 18) and Alex Gordon (July 21) as the only left-handed hitters with multiple hits off Sale in a single game in 2014. For the season, the Orioles are 19-for-51 (.373) against Sale in two starts, while eeryone else is 80-for-439 (.182) over his other 18 starts.

The Orioles have now won nine of their last 10 series-opening games and are 26-16 for the season.

The Orioles scored first last night and are a major league best 47-10 (.825) when they score the game's first run.

On the mound tonight, Chris Tillman (9-5, 3.68 ERA) faces left-hander Jose Quintana (6-9, 3.14 ERA). In eight starts since July 1, Quintana is 1-2 with a 2.52 ERA. He was the winning pitcher at Camden Yards on June 24, giving up just one run in seven innings.

Tillman has allowed three earned runs or less for 13 consecutive starts since June 10, going 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 11 quality starts.

Tillman is 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA in three August starts. In his career, his nine August wins (9-5) are his most in any month and his 3.73 ERA in August is his best of any month.

Tillman became the 28th player in club history to start 100 games as an Oriole with his June 22 start at New York.

The Orioles currently own their best single-season road winning percentage since 1997, when they set a club record by going 52-29 (.642). The O's 37 road wins lead the American League and rank second in the majors behind the Dodgers (40).
