O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces the Angels at Oriole Park

After his team allowed 12 hits and eight runs in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, right-hander Dylan Bundy (1-4, 5.30 ERA) will try to get Orioles pitching back on track this afternoon at Camden Yards. Bundy will make his eighth start and fifth at home.

Last Saturday, he beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0, allowing three hits in 7 1/3 innings. He fanned four on 96 pitches, 62 for strikes. His four-seam fastball averaged 91.3 mph in that game and he threw it 46 times, mixing in 18 changeups and sliders, and 11 curveballs. Bundy got 16 swings and misses versus Tampa Bay.

Over his last four starts, Bundy is 1-3 with a 3.47 ERA. Over 23 1/3 innings, he has yielded 18 hits and 11 runs (nine earned), giving up three home runs. In four starts at Oriole Park, he is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and six homers allowed in 22 innings.

Bundy allows an ERA of 2.57 in the first inning this year and 0.00 in the second inning of his starts. His third inning ERA is 7.71 and that rises to 12.29 in the fourth. Lefty batters have hit .238 with a .733 OPS off him and right-handers are batting .250/.906. Bundy has allowed seven of his nine homers versus right-handed batters.

On Friday, the Orioles began a stretch in which they play games on 20 consecutive days. It marks the longest stretch of scheduled games for the Orioles this season and spans three separate homestands and two road trips. The next scheduled off-day is May 30. The 20-game stretch will feature games against the Angels (0-1), New York Yankees (seven games), Cleveland Indians (four games), Colorado Rockies (three games) and Detroit Tigers (three games).

Right-hander Gabriel Ynoa threw three innings of scoreless relief on Tuesday night against Boston, his third consecutive appearance of at least three innings. In his five appearances this season, he owns a 0.79 ERA, allowing one earned run in 11 1/3 innings. That 0.79 ERA is the lowest among American League East relievers and ranks third-lowest among AL relievers (both minimum 10 innings pitched).

Righty Matt Harvey (1-3, 6.94 ERA) gets the ball today for Los Angeles. On Sunday versus Houston, he gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings. For the season, over 36 1/3 innings, he has a WHIP of 1.376, has walked 3.5 per every nine innings and fanned 5.4 per nine innings.

Harvey has never faced the Orioles. But in five career games against AL East teams, he is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.11.

Farm notes: Single-A Delmarva lost Friday in extra innings to fall to 25-6. The Shorebirds hold a four-game lead atop the South Atlantic League's Northern Division. Lefty Drew Rom (1-0, 2.53 ERA) gets the start tonight against Hagerstown.

Infielder Mason McCoy continues to rake big time. He went 3-for-3 in Double-A Bowie's win last night and is batting .588 (10-for-17) in four games since his promotion from Single-A Frederick. In 31 games for the Keys and Baysox, McCoy is batting .406/.448/.549 with 10 doubles, three homers, 20 RBIs, 27 runs, three steals and an OPS of .997.

Triple-A Norfolk (16-18) hosts Buffalo tonight with right-hander Luis Ortiz (1-2, 4.87 ERA) getting the start. Keegan Akin allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings on Friday to pick up his first Triple-A win. It was his longest outing and second quality start. The Tides are 9-4 in the last 13 games.

Catcher Chance Sisco homered for the sixth time in his past eight games. Over the last 10 games, Sisco is batting .459 (17-for-37) with six home runs and 19 RBIs.

Single-A Frederick hosts Fayettville at 4 p.m. today in a doubleheader with two seven-inning games. In the opener, right-hander Blaine Knight makes his Carolina League debut. He went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.68 for Delmarva in five starts, with four walks and 33 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings.
