Orioles extend qualifying offers to Davis, Chen, Wieters

The Orioles today announced that they have made Qualifying Offers to left-hander Wei-Yin Chen, first baseman Chris Davis and catcher Matt Wieters. Additionally, the club has selected the contract of left-hander Chris Jones from Triple-A Norfolk. Chen, 30, went 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA (71 ER/191.1 IP) over 31 starts for the Orioles this season. Davis, 29, batted .262/.361/.562 with 47 home runs and with 117 RBI in 160 games with the Orioles this season. Wieters, 29, batted .267/.319/.422 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 75 games with the Orioles this season. Jones, 27, went 8-8 with a 2.94 ERA (49 ER/150.0 IP) and 105 strikeouts in 30 games (22 starts) with Triple-A Norfolk this season, including an 8-7 record and 2.96 ERA (45 ER/137.0 IP) as a starter. In 256 games (62 starts) over nine seasons in the minor leagues, Jones went 44-40 with a 3.35 ERA (262 ER/704.0 IP). With this move, the Orioles now have 36 players on their 40-man Major League roster.
