Post-game notes and quotes after Showalter's first O's win

Some post-game clubhouse comments from Jeremy Guthrie, Josh Bell, Adam Jones and Luke Scott after the Orioles 6-3 win over the Angels on Buck Showalter's first night as O's manager. Guthrie on Buck's first night: "I actually was very excited today. Watched the press conference yesterday and came to the ballpark with a big excitement. I'm really, really, excited to have Buck here managing. I feel he's a perfect fit for us and the things he said are right on point. I was excited to come to the park today. "You always want to make a good first impression. But no pressure, I didn't feel any pressure, but everyone really did a nice job tonight. "He talks about sifting through and finding some nuggets. I know I saw a couple of guys out there tonight that could be pushing themselves toward nugget status." Guthrie on the crowd: "It was a good crowd tonight. They introduced Buck as the manger and I heard cheering as I warmed up. As he walked out on the field for the lineups, the same thing. It felt like Opening Day a little bit. "He has said this won't be an overnight thing. But, we've got guys here and he's made that very clear. He said we will figure this out and go in the right direction. It adds a lot of excitement." *Guthrie threw 92 pitches, 58 strikes. He has an ERA of 1.98 over his last four starts. Coming into this game, O's starters had an ERA of 7.39 in the second half. It was just the fifth time in 22 starts this year that the Orioles have scored five runs or more in a game he started. Bell was asked if he feels that two-run double can get his bat going?: "I do. I've just been trying to slow it down, it's coming fast. But I'm getting comfortable and trying to slow it down." Bell on the last two months for him: "It's extremely important for me to show them I can play. I want to give a good impression. I've been blessed with an opportunity and want to take advantage of it." *Bell's double in the sixth produced his first Major League extra-base hit and first two RBI. Bell was 0 for 9 since his last recall from the minors before that double. He is batting .200 with the Orioles. Jones on attending Buck's press conference: "I was just there, just to check him out. To get a feel for how everything is going to be and hear his point of view. It was good to hear what he had to say." Jones, did the O's try to make a good first impression? "Not me. I don't know if other people felt like that. Just play the game. I think he wants us to play the game smart. You can always play hard, but play smart." *Tonight was Showalter's first game as a manager since October 1, 2006 when his Texas Rangers lost 3-2 to Seattle. He is now 3-1 in managerial debuts, losing only with Arizona. Scott on winning Showalter's first game: "It's been kind of a hyped-event. People are excited. Everyone, including us, we want to see a change as far as the results. We look at it as a fresh start. You to have to look at it that way every day." *Scott's two-run homer in the sixth traveled 422 feet and was his 19th of the year. He is batting .328-7-15 in 15 games since his return from the DL on July 19th. In those 15 games he also has four doubles and an OPS of 1.108. *O's pitchers did not walk a batter for the second game in a row. That is the first time all year the O's have gone two games in a row without issuing a walk. *Mike Gonzalez pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He now has an ERA of 1.13 in seven games, covering eight innings, since coming off the DL.
