Tillman with another no-decision to close season (O's win 7-6)

Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman will finish the 2013 season with two wins in his last 11 starts. Tillman is 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA in 206 1/3 innings. The Orioles rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth today, leaving Tillman with his fifth no-decision in that span. T.J. McFarland pitched the sixth inning and left the bases loaded. Tillman was charged with five runs (four earned) and eight hits in five innings, with one walk, five strikeouts, two home runs and a wild pitch. He threw 88 pitches, 52 for strikes. Tillman was trying to become the Orioles' first 17-game winner since Mike Mussina won 18 in 1999. He would have become the 19th Oriole to record a 17-win season, and it would have been the 41st 17-win season in club history. Tillman totaled 16 wins over his four previous seasons. Tillman's last victory came on Sept. 8 against the Yankees. He held the Blue Jays to one run over seven innings in his previous start before today, but the Orioles lost in 10 innings. McFarland stands to be the winner today if the Orioles can hold a 6-5 lead. Jonathan Schoop led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and took third on Brian Roberts' double. Matt Thornton's wild pitch broke a 5-5 tie. One more attendance note: The Orioles averaged 29,100 fans in 81 home dates. Update: Ryan Flaherty drove in his second run since replacing Chris Davis, lining a double into right field to increase the lead to 7-5 in the sixth. Jason Hammel is pitching the seventh. Update II: Game and season over. The Orioles rallied to defeat the Red Sox 7-6 and finish 85-77. Hammel threw two scoreless innings, and Jim Johnson recorded his 50th save, giving him 101 in the last two seasons. David Ortiz singled and Mike Napoli drove him in with a one-out single. Mike Carp singled to put runners on the corners, but Will Middlebrooks grounded into a 5-4-3 double play. Nineteen of the last 22 Orioles games, and 22 of 26, were decided by two runs or fewer. The Orioles finished with 54 errors to set a new major league record in a 162-game season. They were 20-31 in one-run games after going 29-9 last season.
