Trying to pick up the pieces after a very frustrating loss

The Orioles entered Sunday's game having allowed just two unearned runs all year over 16 games. They allowed three unearned runs in the last three innings last night. In the immediate minutes and hour or two after last night's game, this blog and Twitter were buzzing with comments. We probably way over-analyzed that one. But fans were frustrated, looking to vent and assign blame. In the end, the Orioles blew a 5-0 lead and gift-wrapped a comeback win for Boston. The Red Sox had to get some key hits and they did. But they don't win that game without a lot of Orioles help. The team that was the best on defense in the majors last year came unglued. Big mistakes were made. But now it's time for the players to move on and it's probably good for the fans also to have another game come so quickly. No need to stew over that one forever. It was disappointing that Ubaldo Jimenez had such a good outing going, but that he could not finish it off. I don't mean pitch a shutout, but he was staked to leads of 3-0 and 5-0 and did not even pitch six innings. He threw a meatball and Jonny Gomes hit it out. That one swing produced three runs and encouraged the Red Sox. Now they were back in the game. The Orioles posted an impressive 8-4 win Friday, but they could not build on it by not hitting much Saturday and not fielding much Sunday. O's starting pitchers have now gone four straight games without a quality start, pitching five, five, 6 1/3 and 5 1/3 frames the last four games. Yep, they need more innings than that. Can Wei-Yin Chen pitch well again today? A big outing from the lefty would be a huge boost with this quick turnaround. The Orioles headed to Boston with a 25-15 record the last two years against the Red Sox and they had won 11 of the last 15 series between these teams, including six of their last seven series at Fenway Park. But last night's loss leaves them with a 2-4 record against Boston. The Red Sox are 4-2 against the Orioles and 5-8 against everyone else. Today's game starts at 11 a.m. Will that be a good thing for the Orioles? Can they put that bitter loss behind them, play well and get a win today?
