A few notes on a Monday afternoon (AFL update)

The Orioles aren't expected to name their new pitching coach today. The wait continues. Executive vice president Dan Duquette indicated that an announcement should come later this week, as the Orioles intended after beginning the search for Rick Adair's replacement. "We've got a little more work to do on this thing," Duquette said. The Orioles have interviewed former Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee, Mariners pitching coach Carl Willis, Rangers bullpen coach Andy Hawkins and Braves minor league pitching coordinator Dave Wallace. "We've got a little more due diligence to do on our search here," Duquette said. Asked if additional interviews could be conducted, Duquette replied, "We'll see." "We've been working on it for a while now," he added. "We just want to make sure we do our due diligence properly." It sounds as though the Orioles are just making sure they choose the right guy by holding further discussions on Dubee, Willis, Hawkins and Wallace. "We're still meeting on the candidates," Duquette said. "We're still in the process." And that, my friends, is your non-update update. Henry Urrutia is batting fourth and playing left field today for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League. Jonathan Schoop is batting seventh and playing shortstop. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is making his fourth start for the Saguaros. He's allowed four runs and seven hits in 8 2/3 innings, with five walks and eight strikeouts. Update: Rodriguez allowed two runs and two hits in three innings, with no walks, four strikeouts and one home run. He's surrendered six runs in 11 2/3 innings with Surprise. Branden Kline allowed three runs and two hits in one inning, with two walks, one strikeout, one home run, a wild pitch and a hit batter. His ERA rose to 14.09. The Orioles, OriolesREACH, manager Buck Showalter and his wife Angela have partnered with KidsPeace to host the fourth annual Trick-or-Trot 5K/1-Mile Walk at Camden Yards this Saturday, Nov. 2. Proceeds from the event benefit KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs of Maryland and Washington D.C., including KEYS (KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed), a program that prepares youth for independence through life skills training. Participants are invited to dress in their favorite Halloween costume for the race, which begins and ends Camden Yards, including a finish on the field. The day's activities also include a post-race party with the Oriole Bird. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with the race starting at 8 a.m. at the ballpark. Runners are invited to register or pick up their race packets this Friday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the pre-race party at Dempsey's Brew Pub and Restaurant at Oriole Park.
