Adam Jones leaves game with injury (O's lose 5-3)

KANSAS CITY - Adam Jones came out of today's game in the top of the third inning after slamming into the unpadded portion of the Kauffman Stadium fence in the first.

Jones was chasing Ben Zobrist's fly ball, which took a high hop for an automatic double. He began to stumble and hit the fence straight-on while trying to regain his balance.

After several minutes, Jones convinced Bancells and Showalter that he could stay in the game. However, he was removed for a pinch-hitter with two outs in the third.

Paul Janish singled to left field for the Orioles' first hit off Royals starter Yordano Ventura. He remained in the game at shortstop while Ryan Flaherty moved to first base, Chris Davis moved to right field and Parra slid over to center.

Henry Urrutia remains on a bench that now contains only two players, including Jimmy Paredes.

Jones has played in 116 of the Orioles' 127 games this season. He's been sidelined with a sprained left ankle and a sore right shoulder.

Update: The Orioles haven't provided an update on Jones. Meanwhile, the Royals scored twice in the fourth to break a scoreless tie.

Salvador Perez followed Mike Moustakas' leadoff double with an RBI single and Paulo Orlando followed Alex Rios' double with a sacrifice fly.

Update II: The Royals tacked on another run in the fifth on a Zobrist single, Kendrys Morales walk and Moustakas RBI single. They lead 3-0.

Janish singled again in the sixth. He has the only two hits off Ventura.

Update III: Ryan Flaherty hit his second home run in two games to reduce Kansas City's lead to 4-1 in the seventh, but Moustakas produced an RBI single off Jorge Rondon in the bottom half of the inning.

Tillman allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings, with one walk, one strikeout and a home run. He threw 100 pitches, 62 for strikes.

Update IV: The Orioles lose to the Royals 5-3 for their eighth defeat in the last 10 games. They drop three of four in the series.

Jonathan Schoop and Caleb Joseph doubled in the ninth off Greg Holland and Manny Machado had an RBI single to complete the scoring.

The Orioles (63-64) are below .500 again.
