Alex Meyer and Aaron Barrett promoted to Potomac, report Thursday

Pitchers Alex Meyer and Aaron Barrett have been pitching lights out all season for the Single-A Hagerstown Suns, and just a few days into the second half, they are getting rewarded. According to a club source, the right-handers have been promoted to high Single-A Potomac and will report Thursday. Barrett is 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 31 games, and has recorded 31 saves. He has established himself as one of the top up-and-coming, late-inning performers in the Nationals' chain. Barrett hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 10 appearances. He was a ninth-round selection in the 2010 draft out of the University of Mississippi. Meyer, the first-round selection in the 2011 draft at No. 23 overall, features some of the best stuff in all of the Nationals' organization, sporting a 7-4 record with a 3.10 ERA. He has 107 strikeouts in 18 games. Meyer is coming off one of his best performances as a professional, going six innings in a win at Lexington on July 14, in which he allowed four hits, no runs and no walks and struck out nine batters.
