All three affiliates split doubleheaders on Tuesday

The triple play pulled off last Friday by the Nationals against the Giants was the first that involved the first baseman making the first two outs and then throwing to the third baseman to complete the inning (3-3-5).

Ryan Zimmerman catching a line drive, tapping first, and then throwing to Anthony Rendon marked the first triple play in Nationals history. It was also the first triple play by a D.C.-based team since the 1968 Senators.

The Expos last pulled off a triple play on September 3, 2002, and it involved former National Brian Schneider. The Expos also had one in 2000 and a pair of triple plays in 1993.

Meanwhile, each of the top three Nationals affiliates split doubleheaders Tuesday.

Chris Bostick scored twice and drove in two runs in Triple-A Syracuse's 5-1 Game 1 win. They lost Game 2 4-0 against Buffalo.

Double-A Harrisburg split with Binghamton, winning Game 1 4-2 and losing Game 2, 3-2 in 10 innings. Neftali Soto drove in a run with a double and Drew Ward drove in two with a single in to help win the opener.

Jose Marmolejos went 1-for-5 with a RBI in his Double-A debut. Marmolejos is wearing No. 3 and playing first base for the Senators. The 23-year-old Dominican had already played 103 minor league games with Potomac this season.

High Single-A Potomac won the first game against Lynchburg 5-2 and lost Game 2 9-2. Austin Davidson had a solo homer and Matt Reistetter added a two-run single for the P-Nats.

The Nationals (63-44) are still on schedule to face the Giants (61-45) in the first round of the National League playoffs. Chicago is currently the top seed, and the Nationals are No. 2. The Dodgers are No. 4, two games back of the Giants. The Dodgers and the Marlins are the top two wild card seeds. The Cardinals are 1/2 game out a wild card and the Mets are 1 1/2 games back. The Marlins are facing the Cubs while the Mets are taking on the Yankees.

The Nationals have one more against Arizona before they come home to host the Giants.
