An offensive explosion in the eighth puts Nats on top (Nats win 10-7)

What looked like another tough loss to a less-than-star-studded Marlins lineup has turned into what will likely be a huge comeback win. The Nationals can thank a six-run eighth inning, with all six runs scoring with two outs, for the thrilling comeback. Back-to-back RBI singles by Steve Lombardozzi and Tyler Moore tied the game for the Nats in the eighth. But they weren't done yet. Not by a longshot. Danny Espinosa, who entered the game mired in a 3-for-37 slump, absolutely destroyed a 2-2 pitch from Mike Dunn out to left, nearly clearing the Marlins' bullpen. Espinosa got a curtain call, and the crowd exploded. His homer gave the Nats their first lead of the night. They still weren't done. Bryce Harper, who entered the game with three extra-base hits in 21 games since the All-Star break, then absolutely crushed a ball out to right. It finally came down in the second deck, even though I wouldn't have been surprised if it had landed in Baltimore. The Nats trailed 6-4 going into the bottom of the eighth. They tied a season high for most runs plated in an inning and now lead 10-6 as we go to the ninth. What a ballgame. What a comeback. Update: Tyler Clippard allowed a run in the ninth, but it meant nothing. The Nats earn a hard-fought 10-7 win. The Braves lost to the Astros tonight, so Washington's lead in the NL East is back to three games.
