Big second inning for Orioles (big scare for Chen, O's lead 9-0)

It's football weather here at Camden Yards, but the Orioles played inspired baseball in the second inning. They sent nine batters to the plate. They collected six hits. They kept taking extra bases. And they scored five runs to build a nice lead for Taiwanese left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. Adam Jones, Wilson Betemit, Chris Davis and Ronny Paulino strung together singles before Oakland starter Tyson Ross recorded his first out. Davis' single brought home one run. Paulino's delivered two more. Andino had an RBI single, and J.J. Hardy completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Orioles 5, Athletics 0. Ross has thrown 39 pitches in two innings, three fewer than Chen, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first. The Orioles' hustle on the basepaths really stood out in the second. Jones raced from first to third on Betemit's single. Davis went to third and Betemit took second on catcher Kurt Suzuki's error on an attempted pickoff at second. Paulino dashed to second - and yes, I'm using the word "dashed" here - after his single, as the A's continued to throw late trying to cut down runners. Center fielder Yoenis Cespedes failed to make a sliding catch on Reimold's looping single. Andino raced to third ahead of Cespedes' throw, and Reimold hustled to second. So much for station-to-station baseball. Update: Chen stayed in the game after being hit by a comebacker from Kila Ka'aihue in the fourth inning. The ball appeared to nail him just below the belt, and Chen hopped in the air after throwing out Ka'aihue. His translater, head athletic trainer Richie Bancells and manager Buck Showalter ran onto the field, but Chen was fine after a few warmup tosses. The Orioles lead, 6-0, after Wilson Betemit's RBI double in the third inning that followed Adam Jones' single. Betemit was thrown out at third base. Update II: The Orioles had scored 30 runs in their last 10 games and were batting .216 during that stretch. They were due to break out. They scored three more runs in the fifth to build a 9-0 lead. Jones is 3-for-3 with an RBI. Davis is 2-for-3 with three RBIs. The Orioles are outhitting the A's, 12-4. Chen has throw 83 pitches as we head to the sixth inning.
