Adam Jones couldn't deliver with the bases loaded in the first inning, but he just slammed a ball off the foul pole in left field to break a scoreless tie and give the Orioles a 3-0 lead.
Andy Sonnanstine, whose ultimate goal is to reach 100 pitches before the fourth inning, tried to tempt Jones with another breaking ball.
It worked. Jones jumped all over it.
Ty Wigginton singled and Luke Scott walked before Jones came to the plate, giving the Orioles seven baserunners in two-plus innings....
How boring.
The Orioles used a walk to Brian Roberts, an error, a double steal and a walk to Luke Scott to load the bases with one out in the top of the first inning.
Who needs hits?
The Orioles did.
Adam Jones took a curveball that appeared to miss outside, but plate umpire Brian Knight called it a strike. Jones swung through a fastball to fall behind, 0-2, fouled off a pitch while trying to protect the outer half of the plate - he no longer could trust Knight - and popped up the next one...

The Orioles have won three straight series for the first time since June 12-21, 2009 vs. Atlanta, the Mets and Philadelphia. They haven't won four straight since Aug. 3-15, 2004, when they went 3-0 vs Seattle, 4-0 vs Texas, 2-1 at Anaheim and 2-1 at Toronto.
The Orioles are batting .302 since Aug. 3, the highest team average in the AL and second in the majors behind St. Louis (.304 in three fewer games). The 54 runs scored since Aug. 3 is tied for second (with the White Sox) behind Minnesota...
So what's the Orioles' uniform of the day?
Maybe all black with an orange cap and cartoon bird. Or go all orange again until they lose. But please, no pillbox caps like the Pirates wore.
A victory today would give the Orioles four straight series wins, all since Buck Showalter took over as manager. This would be the first of the group against a division opponent, which happens to lead the American League's wild card race.
Don't forget Showalter's quote during the last homestand about...
I sat at the bar at Clyde's in Columbia and felt myself being transported to my childhood. And not because I drank John Dalys from a sippy cup.
Those orange jerseys and pants looked familiar. They were bad back in the day and they're bad now, but if the Orioles can get four 20-game winners to pose in them, I'll take back everything I just wrote.
I still love the old cartoon bird on the black cap and helmet. No white panel. That works for me. But the orange pants? Brutal.
I received a few...

I hope everyone in the area survived the storms last night and wasn't affected by the tornado warning that made my daughter afraid to take a shower. I explained that she doesn't have any windows in there, but she said something about lightning and the pipes.
I sent her up there anyway. And I'm happy to report that my instincts were correct.
That's a switch.
I had nightmares that somebody named Jeanmar Gomez shut down the Orioles and ruined their chance to sweep the Indians. Silly, I...
Felix Pie appeared to injure his left foot while leaving the batters box on a single in the fifth inning, but he stayed in the game after taking a few practice jogs down the right field line.
Corey Patterson watched Pie from the top step of the dugout. Head athletic trainer Richie Bancells and assistant trainer Brian Ebel paid close attention as Pie rounded third on Cesar Izturis' liner to center field that ended the inning.
Pie crossed the plate and took his position in left field. Maybe...
Kevin Millwood gave up another run in the first inning tonight when Trevor Crowe reached on an infield hit with two outs - a play close enough to bring manager Buck Showalter out of the dugout.
Millwood had allowed at least two runs in the opening frame in 11 of 12 starts before shutting down the White Sox in his last outing. Opponents have totaled 35 runs in the first inning.
Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera singled tonight after falling behind, 0-2, in the count. Shin-Soo Choo flied...

The Orioles announced today that they've extended their working agreements with their top three minor league affiliates through 2014.
Norfolk has been the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate for the past four seasons. Double-A Bowie and Single-A Frederick have been with the Orioles since 1993 and 1989, respectively.

Former Ravens cornerback Frank Walker is headed to Miami?
I bet the receivers get there ahead of him.
If you woke up feeling a little different, it's probably because the Orioles are 40-74 and the Pirates are 39-74.
That's what happens when one team goes 8-2 in its last 10 games, and the other goes 3-7.
Interesting observation from West Coast O's Fan: Orioles starters have been victimized by only one bad inning in the last nine games. Jake Arrieta allowed five runs in the fourth inning...
What a perfect description from MASN analyst and former Orioles pitcher and executive Mike Flanagan.
Brad Bergesen has applied a sleeper hold on the Indians. I'm waiting for George "The Animal" Steele to jump in the ring and eat a turnbuckle.
Bergesen just struck out two batters in the eighth inning, and the Indians seemed dazed as he delivered another breaking ball. All they can do is check their swings and hope for a reprieve from the first or third base umpires.
He's allowed one run...

I was preparing to write an entry about outfielder Lou Montanez reporting to Double-A Bowie today when I received an e-mail from the club's public relations director, Tom Sedlacek, announcing that Montanez and Jim Johnson would report this week.
Great minds thinking alike.
Montanez (oblique) and Johnson (elbow) are moving their injury rehab assignments from the Gulf Coast League team. Montanez will join the Baysox tonight, and Johnson will arrive tomorrow.
Montanez was named the Eastern...
The wins keep coming - seven in the last eight games - and fans keep wondering how much credit should go to the new manager.
I don't think it's possible to come up with an exact formula. Would any pie chart - as opposed to a Pie chart - be totally accurate?
No matter how you slice it, Buck Showalter has made a positive impact on this organization. There's more energy, more focus. We kept hearing talk of players being held accountable, but perhaps they believe it more when the words come...
I remember when that title conjured up nothing but negative images. But not anymore.
Did Buck Showalter spike the Gatorade?
I'm running out of ideas.
The Orioles are winning games every way imaginable. Low-scoring, high-scoring, tie-breaking, come-from-behind.
Tonight, they simply bashed the Indians into submission, erupting for 14 runs in their gaudiest display of the season.
Are you sold yet?
I don't know how long it's going to last, and I don't care. I'm just going to enjoy...
I keep waiting for the Orioles to revert to their previous form, and they keep surprising me.
I'm beginning to like this arrangement.
Jake Arrieta issues a two-out walk in the third inning, commits a throwing error and surrenders a run-scoring single to Asdrubal Cabrera - the Indians first hit - to fall behind, 1-0.
No big deal.
The Orioles jumped all over Cleveland starter Justin Masterson in the top of the fourth, scoring four times to take the lead. Three of the runs are unearned...
