The Orioles 2010 Promotions Schedule lists four different bobblehead nights during the upcoming season: Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones, and Nick Markakis mini bobbleheads, with a Matt Wieters standard bobblehead thrown in the mix mid-season.
Unlike the wide open debate for five of the six T-Shirt Tuesdays on the promotions schedule (a Matt Wieters T-shirt will kick things off, but we'll get to the remaining five at a later date here in the Orioles Buzz), these four bobblehead nights have candidates locked in on four names that promise to be guaranteed hits.
In fact, most bobbleheads are enormously sought-after, no matter who they depict or how close the likeness is (or isn't), and it's always fun to see how the figures turn out.
Thanks to a little bit of Googling, I was able to compile a list of O's bobbleheads from the last decade. The list begins, appropriately, with Cal Ripken Jr.
2000: Cal Ripken, Jr.
2001: Brady Anderson
2002: Funbird, Jay Gibbons, Jerry Hairston, Sidney Ponson, and Talking Chuck Thompson
2003: Jeff Conine, Talking World Series MVP Rick Dempsey, and Eddie Murray
2004: Rafael Palmeiro, Earl Weaver and Jim Palmer together, and Jim Palmer honored as a Columbus Clipper (but in an O's uniform)
2005: Miguel Tejada, Sammy Sosa
2006: Brian Roberts, Brooks Robinson and Melvin Mora
2007: Cal Ripken "1983 World Series", Cal Ripken "2131" and Boog Powell
2008: Nick Markakis
2009: Adam Jones
Anyone have some of these stashed away or displayed with pride in their house somewhere? I'd love to see the "talking" Chuck Thompson and Rick Dempsey.
I was also at Canton Dockside restaurant recently, and I can't be certain, but it sure looked like they had the whole collection displayed on a ledge near the restaurant's ceiling. The owner must be a fan.
Whether it's the whole set or not, it's a pretty cool collection, and I'd recommend the place if you need somewhere to eat when you're in Baltimore for a game sometime this season.
