Bordick to the bullpen (Britton to the 2nd inning)

Former shortstop Mike Bordick will take over as interim bullpen coach during the upcoming homestand that begins tomorrow night against the Blue Jays. Bordick currently serves as the Orioles' coordinator of offensive fundamentals, though he's also known to work with the infielders. Don Werner, who took over for Rick Adair, will resume his duties as minor league catching instructor. Maybe you'll get a turn before the season ends. Also, Chris Tillman is expected to start Saturday night against the Blue Jays, taking Jake Arrieta's turn in the rotation. Tillman started Game 1 of last Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees and allowed five earned runs (seven total) and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out six, and his fastball topped out at 94 mph. Tillman would take Arrieta's spot on the 25-man roster. Arrieta is headed to the disabled list. Infielder Cesar Izturis will probably be activated from the disabled list tomorrow. The Orioles could option Blake Davis or Josh Bell. They might decide on Bell so he can play every day at Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles are looking for their first series win tonight since June 26 against the Reds. They're also looking for left-hander Zach Britton to get through the first inning and get back on track. Britton allowed eight runs (seven earned) and six hits in two-thirds of an inning in a July 8 start at Fenway Park, and nine runs (six earned) and seven hits in one-third of an inning in a July 30 start at Yankee Stadium. Update: The good news is Britton got through the first inning. The bad news is he allowed three runs. Only one run was earned after his fielding error. Alex Gordon led off with a double, and Britton misplayed Melky Cabrera's bunt, turning his glove the wrong way and then flipping the ball casually to first as Cabrera reached safely. Billy Butler followed with an RBI double, with right fielder Nick Markakis getting a late jump on the ball, and he scored with one out on Jeff Francoeur's infield hit. Yamaico Navarro's check-swing bouncer to third plated another run. Britton threw 24 pitches in the inning.
