Chris Marrero to Potomac, starts at DH tonight

Chris Marrero, recovering from a torn hamstring, played two games with low Single-A Hagerstown this week. Now he is headed to high Single-A Potomac, according to club sources. It was the first baseman's first pro action since he tore his hamstring in winter ball. His recovery was slowed a bit this year because he also had to battle shoulder soreness, spending more time in extended spring training. The right-handed hitter finally returned to the field for two games with the Suns this week, his first games in eight months. Marrero 1-for-4 with a double and another hard hit ball to third base. He also walked and scored a run. In the first game June 5, he was hit by a pitch on his thumb. X-rays showed his thumb was OK, with no significant damage. The thumb was checked out in D.C. by team doctors, and he is fine. According to club sources, Marrero has been transferred to Potomac and will start as the designated hitter tonight. The P-Nats have a doubleheader that starts at 6:05 p.m. against Salem. Marrero hit .248 in 31 games last season for the Nationals, with five doubles and 10 RBIs. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list.
