The movement of prospects continues today within the Nationals organization, this time on the offensive side.
MASNsports.com has confirmed that outfielder Eury Perez has been promoted from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Syracuse. Perez was hitting .300 with 30 RBIs, 26 stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 81 games with the Senators.
The biggest jump in classifications belongs to speedy outfielder Brian Goodwin. A club source confirms Goodwin has been bumped two levels from Single-A Hagerstown to Harrisburg. With the Suns, Goodwin .324 with nine homers, 38 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
The Harrisburg Patriot-News first reported the promotions of Perez and Goodwin.
Also, hot-hitting outfielder Steven Souza Jr., has been promoted to Single-A Potomac from Hagerstown. Souza .290 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs with the Suns.
Goodwin and Souza have been a part of the best offensive team in the South Atlantic league, as Hagerstown has shown power and speed throughout the season.
Perez has continued to play very well for Harrisburg and is ready for the next challenge. It will be interesting if this might affect Corey Brown in Syracuse. Manager Davey Johnson mentioned him postgame Thursday when discussing the franchise depth in the outfield and one reason why the Nationals could afford to designate veteran Rick Ankiel for assignment.
