SARASOTA, Fla. - Chris Davis is in camp and he'll speak with the media in a few minutes.
There seems to be an obsession over his report date. Position players aren't due until Sunday.
"We've talked on the phone a few times, got to see him in person at FanFest, talked to him this morning. So it's been all positive," said manager Brandon Hyde.
"I think he looks great and he sounds great and I'm ready to watch him work out."
Outfielder Austin Hays has reported early and he took batting practice this morning on the stadium field.
Hyde doesn't have any updates on catcher Jesús Sucre or pitcher Gregory Infante. The former is detained in Venezuela with visa issues and the later due to an illness.
Dean Kremer could be sidelined for a few more weeks with a strained left oblique.
"He's a young kid and we're going to be really patient with him and make sure he's fully healthy and ready to go before we have him continue any baseball activities," Hyde said. "His health is the No. 1 important thing, and we're just going to wait until he's cleared and ready to go. I think when you're dealing with an oblique or a side you never know how that heals. It's a pretty common deal now, so I think everybody heals a little bit differently. We're going to be patient with him."
Hunter Harvey, Andrew Cashner, David Hess, Branden Kline, Evan Phillips, Dylan Bundy, Dillon Tate, Cody Carroll, Nathan Karns, Gabriel Ynoa, Luis Ortiz, Tanner Scott, Jimmy Yacabonis and Sean Gilmartin threw again in the bullpen this morning.
Left-hander Richard Bleier is on a slower pace due to his lat surgery. He threw Monday, but wasn't in today's group.
Hyde has issued warnings to all of his players to avoid trying too hard to impress and risking an injury.
"That's one thing I've said to them: 'You're not going to make the club in pitchers/catchers (workouts),'" he said.
"Our main goal is to break healthy, is to improve during camp and to break healthy and it would be the best-case scenario if everybody's healthy after we left. That's the No. 1 thing. I think you can get amped up a little bit early and have guys try to push it too much. I want guys to get their work in. I want them to be smart about it and be honest about anything that comes up. You want to try to stop it now, from an injury standpoint."
