Duchscherer slated to start Tuesday (updated)

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Assuming that Justin Duchscherer's hip remains pain-free, the right-hander will start Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater. Manager Buck Showalter confirmed that Duchscherer will work the first inning. He also could return for the second if his pitch count is down and he isn't forced to sit for a prolonged stretch while the Orioles bat. "I'm going to let Duke start the game," Showalter said. "We don't want him to sit around for a while." Left-hander Brian Matusz will pitch in relief that day. His finger isn't bothering him following the laser procedure to remove a wart. "Matusz felt good. No problems there," Showalter said. Showalter also told reporters that Derrek Lee probably won't play before Wednesday. Lee hit soft tosses today in Sarasota while dealing with some mild soreness in his right wrist area. And finally, Matt Wieters is fine today after being hit on the right arm by Carl Crawford's bat during yesterday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Wieter was removed from the travel roster today and remains "a little sore," according to Showalter, but he's scheduled to start tomorrow night's game against the New York Yankees at Ed Smith Stadium. "He's got most of the feeling back," Showalter said. "He just got hit on the funny bone." Minor league infielders Buck Britton and Bobby Stevens, and outfielders Steven Bumbry, Kyle Hudson and Jacob Julius will join the Orioles for the split-squad games tomorrow and Wednesday.
