Duensing coming off disabled list Monday (and other notes)

The Orioles will make another roster move before Monday afternoon's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field.

Left-hander Brian Duensing is headed to Baltimore today and will fly with the team to Tampa. He's currently on the 60-day disabled list after undergoing elbow surgery.

Duensing had cartilage chips removed from his left elbow in June. He appeared in seven games with the Orioles before the surgery and allowed four runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The Orioles will need to remove a player from the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Duensing.

Chris Tillman threw in the bullpen today and Darren O'Day threw off a half-mound. Manager Buck Showalter was waiting to receive the reports.

Both pitchers will fly with the team to Tampa. Showalter suggested that O'Day could throw in Sarasota.

Showalter said he wanted Steve Pearce to start in two of the three games in this series. He also noted how Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda is a neutral splits guy, almost reverse, who can be tough on left-handed hitters.

The Orioles will have a group of minor league players work out in Sarasota beginning Sept. 9 to stay ready in case they're needed down the stretch, the camp roster expected to include catcher Audry Perez, first baseman Trey Mancini, outfielders Christian Walker, Dariel Alvarez, Julio Borbon and Chris Dickerson, and pitchers T.J. McFarland, Parker Bridwell and Kyle Lobstein.

Catcher Chance Sisco could join the group if Perez is still bothered by an oblique injury.

Showalter said the list could change depending on future 40-man roster moves. In other words, someone may no longer be in the organization as the Orioles clear more space.

The camp will go until the start of the fall instructional league and will be run by Ramon Martinez.
