The Astros tallied a run in second inning of Game 3 of the World Series, thanks to three hits in a row against Nationals right-hander AnÃbal Sánchez.
Carlos Correa doubled to left field. Josh Reddick dropped in a single to score Correa and Houston led 1-0. The throw home from Juan Soto went over the head of catcher Kurt Suzuki, allowing Reddick to take second.
Robinson Chirinos singled to put men on the corners. Zack Greinke's sacrifice to third base put two runners in scoring position. But Sánchez struck out George Springer to end the frame.
In the third, Jose Altuve doubled down the left field line and went to third when Soto could not glove the ball along the wall. Soto was charged with an error. Michael Brantley's infield single scored Altuve to make it 2-0 Astros.
The Nationals put together back-to-back singles by Asdrúbal Cabrera and Ryan Zimmerman in the second, but were unable to score.
In the third, the Nats loaded the bases, but Cabrera struck out on a 68 mph curveball to end the inning.
After three innings, the Astros lead the Nats 2-0.
Update: In the fourth, Zimmerman walked to lead off the inning. It was the third walk in a span of five batters versus Greinke. One batter later, Victor Robles tripled into the left field corner to score Zimmerman.
After four innings, the Astros lead the Nats 2-1.
Update II: Altuve doubled and scored on a Brantley RBI single in the top fo the fifth. But Brantley benefitted from a pair of low strikes that were called balls before his base hit.
Mid-fifth, the Astros lead the Nats 3-1.
Update III: Robinson Chirinos belted a solo shot off the left field foul pole netting in the top of the sixth to extend the Astros' advantage. With the bases loaded, Fernando Rodney induced a fielder's choice grounder to shortstop to end the threat.
Sánchez lasted 5 1/3 innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing four runs, with one walk and four strikeouts. He fired 93 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Mid-sixth, the Astros lead the Nats 4-1.
Update IV: In the bottom of the ninth, Turner flew out to deep right-center field for the first out against Roberto Osuna. Eaton dropped in a bloop single to shallow left field. Rendon popped up behind the plate to the catcher. Soto struck out looking to end the game.
Final score: Astros 4, Nats 1.
