Fister, Nats sweep Braves with 7-0 shutout

Denard Span roped a single to right to start the game and when Nick Markakis muffed the ball, Span took second. For Markakis, the gaffe broke a 398-game errorless streak, the longest by an outfielder in Major League Baseball history.

Span advanced to third on Danny Espinosa's sacrifice bunt and then scored easily on Yunel Escobar's groundout to second.

Doug Fister has given up one hit with one strikeout through two innings.

Ian Desmond then hit a routine grounder to Braves third baseman Kelly Johnson, who launched his throw to first out of play. Ramos scored as Desmond advanced to second on the Braves' second error.

One batter later, Michael A. Taylor smoked a 92 mph fastball from Braves starter Matt Wisler off the top of the wall in center for an RBI double.

Update II: Escobar belted a one-out double to center in the third. Clint Robinson immediately brought Escobar home on a base knock up the middle.

After Ramos grounded into a force play, Desmond smacked a two-run homer over the scoreboard in right-center field. It was Desmond's sixth home run on the season.

Fister has struck out three Braves while allowing two hits in three innings.

Update III: For the sixth straight day, the Nationals recieved a stellar performance from their starting pitcher. Fister scattered four hits with one walk, one hit batter and four strikeouts over seven innings. He threw 111 pitches.

The Nats' starting pitchers have now tossed a franchise record 41 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

Update IV: Right-hander Blake Treinen struck out two in a scoreless eighth.

The Nationals tacked on another run on Matt den Dekker's first hit and RBI of the season in the bottom of the inning.

Treinen stays on the mound for the ninth.

Update V: Treinen finished off the Braves in the ninth.

The Nationals shut out the Braves 7-0 to earn a series sweep.
