SAN FRANCISCO - The Nationals are in position to sweep the Giants this afternoon, so that perhaps gives Davey Martinez a little leeway with his lineup, perhaps not feeling the need to overwork guys with a quick turnaround to today's 12:45 p.m. local first pitch.
That means we've got a bit of a new look here today. It's Asdrúbal Cabrera making his first start for the Nationals in five years, playing second base. And it's Gerardo Parra, who started last night in right field, at first base today. Those guys are batting fifth and sixth, respectively, against Giants right-hander Shaun Anderson.
Joe Ross, meanwhile, will look to build off his positive start last week in Arizona, when he allowed only one hit in 5 1/3 innings. Ross will need to be around the strike zone more today, though. He issued five walks in that last start and somehow lived to tell about it. The Nationals pitching staff has only walked one Giants batter so far in this series. That's a pretty good formula for success.
