For the first time this season, the Nationals are facing someone other than the Mets or Phillies. If they play, that is. Yes, if it's a home game, that means there's rain in the forecast. It appears that we may be OK early on, but there is a line of storms approaching that could impact us later tonight. As always, when we know something, you'll know it, too.
The Nationals face a Pirates club that is off to a solid 6-5 start thanks to dominant pitching. They lead the league with a 2.61 ERA and boast a 1.050 WHIP as a staff. That's outstanding. And tonight's starter, Trevor Williams, is a big part of that success, dating back to the second half of the 2018 season.
The Nats, of course, know a thing or two about dominant starting pitching. And they'll be sending one of their top guys to the mound tonight in Patrick Corbin. The lefty has pitched well so far, but he has yet to earn a decision despite posting quality starts in each of two starts. He was victimized by three homers last weekend in New York.
