Game 125 lineups: Nats at Pirates

PITTSBURGH - You know all about what the Nationals have accomplished at the plate in recent days. What might they be able to accomplish tonight if they keep the barrage going?

Well, they've already tied the major league record by scoring 13 or more runs in three straight games. If they can somehow do it again tonight, they'll become the first team in Major League Baseball history to do it in four straight games. They've scored 43 runs in three games; if they can score seven tonight, they'll set a new franchise record for a four-game stretch. If they hit just one homer, they'll set a franchise record with 17 over a four-game stretch.

So that's what tonight's lineup will be shooting for against Chris Archer, the former Rays All-Star right-hander who hasn't come anywhere close to matching that performance since coming to the Pirates last summer. Archer enters tonight's game 3-9 with a 5.23 ERA in 22 starts. Of particular note, he's allowed 25 homers in 118 2/3 innings, nearly twice his career average prior to this season.

Strasburg-Dealing-at-NYM-Gray-Sidebar.jpgStephen Strasburg starts for the Nationals. You know what's weird about Strasburg's season to date? His WHIP (1.095), strikeout rate (10.5 per nine innings) and home run rate (1.1 per nine innings) all are right in line with his career averages. But his 3.82 ERA is sky-high compared to his 3.22 career ERA. He also leads the league with 15 wins and is one shy of establishing a new career high. We'll see what happens tonight against a Pirates lineup that couldn't do squat in the opener against Joe Ross, Javy Guerra and Kyle McGowin.
