Do you remember the last time the Nationals faced the Brewers? Yep, it was the 2019 National League wild card game. Quite a bit has happened since that memorable night, huh?
Today, the Brewers make their first trip back to D.C. in 20 months. It's not completely a must-win situation like it was for the Nats that night, but they'd certainly like to get back on track after dropping two of three to the Reds earlier in the week.
After Friday night's game was rained out, they'll attempt to play two seven-inning games today. The forecast is better (though not great) for the 2:05 p.m. opener, then not good at all for the 7:15 p.m. nightcap.
But first things first. The opener of the series will see Patrick Corbin on the mound for the Nationals against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. With lefties Jon Lester and Brett Anderson now scheduled to pitch tonight, manager Davey Martinez is going with a lefty-heavy lineup for the first game. That includes Luis GarcÃa at second base, Alex Avila behind the plate and Andrew Stevenson in center field. I would guess they'll be replaced by Jordy Mercer, Yan Gomes and Josh Harrison in the nightcap (again, weather permitting).
