Game 68 lineups: Nats vs. Diamondbacks

The Nationals are back in D.C. to begin their longest homestand of the summer. These 11 games over the next two weeks will go a long way in setting up how big a mountain the club will need to climb in the National League East as the All-Star break approaches.

Even with Tuesday's 7-5 loss at Chicago, the Nats have won 12 of their last 17 games and sit 7 1/2 games behind the division's new leader, the Atlanta Braves.

After a 3-3 road trip, the Nats (31-36) begin a four-game set against the Diamondbacks tonight, then the Phillies arrive Monday night. The homestand wraps up with three against the Braves beginning a week from tomorrow night.

Arizona (36-33) just won a series at Philadelphia, knocking the Phillies off their perch atop the division, and have won six of their last seven games. Right fielder David Peralta is hitting .298, third baseman Eduardo Escobar leads the club with 17 homers, 55 RBIs and 79 hits.

Right-hander Erick Fedde (1-0, 2.93 ERA) faces off against Arizona's Zack Greinke (7-2, 2.87) in tonight's opener. Fedde is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA since joining the Nats starting rotation May 21. This is his first-ever appearance against Arizona.

Adams-HR-Swing-White-Sidebar.jpgThe Nats should have an update on first baseman Matt Adams' oblique. The Nats held him out of Tuesday's game at Chicago. So, after two more days more of rest, the club will need to make a decision on the next step for Adams with this huge homestand waiting.

The Nats are 2-8 in series openers at home but also 7-3 so far in June.
