Game 80 lineups: Nats vs. Dodgers

Here's some good news: There's no serious threat of rain tonight, the temperature and humidity have dropped and it should be a very pleasant Friday evening at the park as the Nationals and Dodgers play the second of four games this holiday weekend.

And here's some more good news: Max Scherzer is on the mound. How good has the ace been? Well, over his last 10 starts, he's got a 1.70 ERA and hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of them. And he held these Dodgers to one run over six innings way back on April 11 in a hard-luck loss to Clayton Kershaw.

Now, about the Nats lineup. It includes a new face, someone who hasn't been on the roster until today: Humberto Arteaga. He's a 27-year-old who was batting .227 at Triple-A Rochester, and with Luis García, Carter Kieboom, Adrián Sanchez and Jackson Cluff all injured, he was the next infielder available for promotion as the Nationals scramble for healthy bodies. Arteaga can play all three infield positions, but he'll start tonight at shortstop, allowing Josh Harrison and Starlin Castro to remain at their usual spots.

Jordy Mercer has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right quadriceps muscle, and though Trea Turner remains on the active roster it doesn't appear he's ready to play. Turner did some light throwing in the outfield today but wasn't catching the ball at all, protecting his left middle finger. And to make room for Arteaga on the 40-man roster, the Nationals placed minor league right-hander Steven Fuentes on the 60-day IL with a shoulder strain.
