Gonzalez and Wada updates (O's lose 6-5, Hunter update)

The Orioles haven't had a starter complete six innings in the last four games, including today, when Miguel Gonzalez fell an out short. Gonzalez allowed one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings, with three walks and seven strikeouts. He threw 101 pitches, 58 for strikes. Brian Matusz stranded a runner to end the sixth. Matusz has stranded 18 of 20 inherited runners this season and 32 of 34 since moving to the bullpen last summer. In two starts since coming off the disabled list, Gonzalez has allowed three runs and nine hits in 12 2/3 innings, with three walks and 12 strikeouts. If the Orioles lose today, it's because they're 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and have stranded nine runners through six innings. They're clinging to a 3-1 lead after Adam Jones homered in the seventh for the fourth consecutive game. Jones (11) and Chris Davis (11) have the most homers against the Jays since the start of the 2012 season. Since the start of the 2012 season, Jones has hit nine home runs at Rogers Centre to lead all opponents. Down on the farm, Tsuyoshi Wada has allowed three runs and four hits in five innings today for Triple-A Norfolk, with four walks and six strikeouts. He's thrown 83 pitches, only 46 for strikes. All the runs came in the fourth inning. Wada struck out the side in the fifth. In three rehab starts, Wada has gone 13 innings and allowed nine runs (eight earned) and 13 hits, with eight walks and 12 strikeouts. Update: Tommy Hunter may have saved this game for the Orioles with a barehanded grab of Jose Bautista's bouncer up the middle and flip to first base to end the eighth and leave the bases loaded. Hunter gave up a run on Munenori Kawasaki's single off the glove of leaping second baseman Alexi Casilla. Matt Wieters gave the Orioles some breathing room in the top of the ninth with a two-out, bases-loaded double that scored two runs and increased the lead to 5-2. Wieters has three doubles among his four hits today. He hadn't collected more than two hits in a game this season. He's also driven in three runs. The Orioles are 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position. The fourth hit, from Wieters, was huge. Jim Johnson will try to record his 16th save and his second in two days. Update II: Johnson blew his fourth save in his last five opportunities, and the Orioles lost to Toronto 6-5. Johnson gave up a run and had the bases loaded with one out and Mark DeRosa at the plate. DeRosa got ahead in the count 2-0 before bouncing into a force that scored the fourth run. With two outs and runners on the corners, Kawasaki got ahead 2-0, took a strike, took a ball, took a strike to fill the count and lined the game-winning double into left-center field. Johnson allowed four runs and four hits, walked one and threw 37 pitches. He's surrendered 12 runs in his last six outings over five innings. Johnson had three blown saves in 2012. He's already exceeded that total this season. Tough, tough loss. Update: Manager Buck Showalter told MASN's Gary Thorne that X-rays on Hunter's right hand were negative. However, the hand is swollen and the Orioles will re-evaluate him on Monday.
